Derwent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jack Machin played a programme of music by and inspired by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The first half started with Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, which was followed by three works composed by students at the University of Tasmania inspired by his 5th symphony. These included There We Live by Mandy Wisely, Black Swan by Evan Edrich and Tchaikovkovkovkovsky by Sam Woolford. The programmed ended with Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 with Anita Green opening the second movement’s solo as principal horn. The concert was on Sunday the 20th of September 2026 in the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre on the Sandy Bay campus of UTas.
Derwent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Will Newbery featuring Brahms’ Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor (Op. 102) with Phoebe Masel (violin) and Nick McManus (cello) as soloists. In this programme also had the March from Sigurd Jorsalfar by Grieg and Suite No. 2 from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev. The concert was on Sunday the 21st of June 2026 in the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre on the Sanday Bay Campus of UTas.
